COOP POSTERS
Our collection of posters includes a wide variety of print styles and prices. What’s the difference, you ask?
Well, here are some brief descriptive explanations:
A Litho poster—short for lithography—is printed on a press using a four-color process. The paper stock is thinner and the posters are not signed or numbered because there is no “edition.” We will continue to print them as long as people continue to order them. These posters come rolled and bagged in plastic—sanitized for your protection!
Also called Serigraphs, these posters are hand printed by human beings using the silkscreening technique. Each color on the poster has its own screen and is printed as a separate step or pass through the press. Most Coop posters have 8 or 9 colors. Colors are hand picked by Coop and mixed to his specifications. These posters are printed in editions, the number for which is also picked by Coop, and are signed and numbered by Coop. No reprints are ever made of any Coop silkscreen poster.
These very limited edition fine art prints are popping up all over the fine art world and have interested Coop for years. The term “giclee” is derived from the French word “gicleur” which translates to “nozzle.” The French verb “to spray” is “gicler,” (yep, we’re back in high school French class here) so logic tells us that the direct object of that spraying nozzle (Hang on we’re almost there) would of course be ... Giclee. The technique was developed in the 1990s for exclusive use in making fine art prints, and now Coop is getting into the act with the help of a renowned Los Angeles printer. “Iris” is the name of the machine most often used to create the print, so prints are sometimes called Iris Prints instead of Giclee.
